About the work

What should people know about your work?

My work reflects the various environments in which I move. Although based on reality, they are often constructed with the aid of memory even though with some of my work my main aim is to depict what I see as precisely as possible. The initial idea behind the work Kamufláž (Camouflage) was an analogy between QR codes and painting. Much like the machine deciphers a text from a set of squares, a human being assembles an image from flecks of colour. In recent times, QR codes have become a distinctive feature permeating almost everything. I have tried to interconnect it with digital camouflage, which is actually a photographed and stylised digital landscape. The green colour of the mesh onto which water colours are installed is reflected onto adjacent surroundings. For me, working with light is an important and exciting component of painting.

How do you see yourself and your work five years from now?

I’m pretty much looking forward to the period five years from now. My main objective will be to achieve relative stability, financially and in my life. At the same time, I would like to devote as much of my time as possible to painting, and from time to time to put on an exhibition. To continue with study drawing… I would like to be able to employ one person to look after administration. I would like to continue studying art history outside of education. I would finally like to read some classical literature. And to acquire a vase by Pavel Janák. I’d also like to maintain my contacts with England. I can’t predict how my own work will develop. I think it will continue to move forward, one little step at a time.
