About the work

What should people know about your work?

In the begging at AVU, I primarily used drawing and painting techniques to express themes that were mostly existential. Over the course of my studies, I had the opportunity to try out a wide range of techniques and approaches. My work mostly results in sculptural objects, although I also often work with text, physical action, audio and video. The approaches that I feel most affinity with include irony, humour, hyperbole, provocation, but also playfulness and intuition.

At the moment, the focal point of my interest consists of the themes of education, aggressiveness, manipulation and games.

How do you see yourself and your work five years from now?

I imagine myself having fulfilling relationships, family and friends. I live in a little house by a pond with a garden. I want to have a flower shop and also a proper workshop-studio. In any case, I will continue with my own work. I’m not averse to being financially rewarded in this respect, but at the moment I’m not relying on being able to cover my living costs by making fine art.

Ideally, I’ll have a profession which I will consider meaningful and fulfilling, and which will provide an adequate salary, as well as having flexible working hours as a bonus, enabling me to also devote myself to the visual arts. Often the simplest thing is to be employed; I can envisage myself working in the cultural sphere, but I’m not afraid to work outside of the field, doing something that has nothing to do with visual art.

I have now been working as a preschool guide for three years running; I’m being offered the chance to continue with social work studies and to work in the school system, or even better within the framework of informal education. I lead courses in movement and dance, I teach art, paint landscapes and grow herbs because I enjoy it.
