About the work
Frames
Lucie Bečvářová frames paintings. Her work is about linkages, contexts, shared space, caring, mutuality. Frames protect paintings; they separate them from their surroundings within the context of a shared space. They connect paintings with one another within space. They are means by which diverse things can be together without getting in each other’s way. The framed works, meanwhile, were made by various different artists.
Bečvářová’s graduation work follows on her long-term interests and her earlier work. Her main focus has been on feminist themes, which she associates with nurturing, equality, and non-hierarchy. She was drawn to the subject of frames because it is sculptural but also involves cooperation, which is something that she would like to focus on in the future. She is interested in continuity: what will happen with her work in the future (exhibiting previously finished works) and what makes her work meaningful (what it’s good for, what it does – a frame has a purpose).
