About the work
Eliška Konečná’s diploma is a loose composition of miscellaneous things, which together serve to evoke the intimate atmosphere of a home. The objects are of a specific, unambiguous, and only hardly describable nature. They sometimes fuse features derived from totally contradicting artistic fields – such as traditional handicrafts as to the employed material versus conceptual play with words. Some are, in turn, clearly utilitarian, being neither sculptures nor textile paintings, but at the same time serving as a bench or, respectively, a screen. Also importantly, the two displayed screens present a seemingly identical scene on the reverse and obverse, but somehow different. This shift indicates that even the featured protagonists do not perceive it in the same way. The work thus becomes a metaphor for how various people can diversely view things. The screen has a similar meaning since it represents a symbolical object referring to the limits of perception of two persons beholding a situation.
