About the work

Promised Pankrác

What is your graduation work about?

I focus on Na Pankráci and Budějovická streets and the adjacent square. I try to show the way the place could develop. I accentuate the city’s adaptation to climate change. I do not do this via a new style of design. I aim to achieve this with time-tested urban relationships and design. An integral part of the city’s adaptation is the reduction of individual car traffic and its replacement by other forms of mobility. My project closely relates to my classmates’ projects on the surrounding streets.

What do you do besides your graduation work?

Discovering the world.

In what conditions would you like to work on your graduation work?

I would like a workspace that would help convey my work to more people. It would be interesting to work in the location I design and thus get in more contact with and participate with local people. Otherwise, though, I am happy with our studio on the 1st floor of the School of Architecture.

What would you imagine to be an alternative culmination of your studies at AVU, in place of the defense of your graduation work?

Is it possible to compare free art and architecture in this case? Some form of defending my work as an architect makes sense to me; after all, the negative impact of architecture on society can be considerable. But is ethics the decisive yardstick for evaluating architecture? However, the culmination of the study via a defense is merely formal; there is no actual culmination.
