About the work
During her studies, the artist had the opportunity to become familiar with the construction and technology of historical paintings. She devoted her last year at the Academy to the restoration of the Baroque painting The Madonna in a Floral Oval, held by the Museum of Silver in Kutná Hora. The main issue in this work was finding an appropriate way of removing the surface impurities, and the subsequent cementing and retouching. She also restored the canvas Party at Plečnik’s by Theodor Pištěk and the sculpture Black Man from the Kutná Hora altarpiece of St Ignatius of Loyola. The polychromy of the latter work contained gilding on poliment, which Tomíčková pursues in the theoretical section of her diploma. Its part also was practical exams focused on upper isolations preventing corrosion of metal plates on wooden panels and polychromies.
