About the work
Josef Knap based the presented work on his memories of childhood and home. The central sculpture loosely and non-descriptively features his grandfather – a village basket-maker, who was very close to him – in a symbolical welcoming gesture. Also, the columns framing the sculpture seem to refer to the grandfather’s job, for they are piled-up casts of wicker baskets. Knap’s inspiration was an intense reading of the book Three Movements of Human Life by the philosopher Jan Patočka.
