About the work
Terra Oblivionis
In her graduation work, Liza Libenko seeks to symbolically reflect her individual view of the state of the world today. The piece draws on her work from the past two years, in which she has experimented with format and various materials to achieve a transition from painting to object art.
It should be read as a visual form of decadent poetry which requires us to use our intuition and to immerse ourselves in our feelings and associations.
The work’s motif is the sunflower, one of the most popular floral symbols in visual art, a reference to life, the sun, vitality. Libenko plays with this classical symbol and adapts it for the contemporary world. Her sunflower is black, dark, like our times. Later, it mutates into an unidentifiable state and grows into something else…
