About the work

What should people know about your work?

For my diploma work, I restored a wooden, Baroque polychrome sculpture of a winged angel from the Premonstratensian Abbey in Želiv. The reason behind the restoration of this historic object was nothing less than bringing it back from the brink of complete ruin. It required a complete material restoration and an extensive structural and colour pigment reconstruction. My aim was to achieve something as close to its original appearance as possible, while respecting the age of the artwork and the preservation of its authenticity.

Part of the diploma assignment was theoretical. Here, I examine the subject of consolidating agents for wood.

How do you see yourself and your work five years from now?

Quite frankly, I look forward to anything, anywhere. I see myself in my house out in the countryside surrounded by nature, where I’ll build a modest studio above the Sázava river. There I will work, and every morning I will also contemplate the world with a mug of good coffee while watching the Sázava rapids. Another vision is to travel and learn about new lands and cultures, becoming engaged in the development of young people, for example in the areas of wood carving or fishing.
