About the work
The principle of Jan Uličný’s paintings and objects is fusing incoherent features and raw expression. The artist combines references to present-day visuality, symbols from his childhood, motifs taken from computer games, portraits of his contemporaries, and many other elements of unclear nature, which are open to the viewers’ interpretation. He loosely links this in a visual field unbound by the rules of either style or conventional logic: he works without a primary schedule, in a continuous dialogue with the image, and never retrospectively analyzes the result.
