What is your graduation work about?

My graduation work mainly concerns relationships and gossip from artistic and non-artistic life. Having watched the Art Exam film and heard the After AVU new podcast (neither of which directly inspired me, as I started working on my books much earlier), I deal with what happens to an artist in the process of studying via seven comic books. I try to mediate an understanding between an artist and a person without any insight into this environment. I address specific social issues, such as the artist’s status, the subject of love, or the hierarchical rules of relationships in an institution.

What do you do besides your graduation work?

Apart from the graduation work, I have mostly been gossiping, listening to gossip, and watching people lately. My other position is abstract: it is abstract digital images I pursue outside my conceptual comic books. I enjoy sports, running, kickboxing…

In what conditions would you like to work on your graduation work?

I would like to see a large-format printer and a bookbinding workshop at the Academy. My conditions for working on my graduation work were quite good; perhaps more funding and better information for the graduates on announcing the general creative grant would be helpful. Among other things, I wish I had my studio closer to Prague.

What would you imagine to be an alternative culmination of your studies at AVU, in place of the defense of your graduation work?

I have no idea what I would choose instead of the defense. It is a very formal affair for me, like a state exam. I would make the defense process less formal. I would, for example, finish my studies with a voluntary program to help students integrate into life after AVU.
