About the work
The Near East and its culture are aspects very significant for Jolana Korbičková’s life. She pursues the subjects of religion and faith in the context of xenophobia and racism. The primary source of inspiration for her diploma was her fellowship in Israel where she, among other things, studied the orthodox Hasidim and Datlash communities, while the latter are Jews brought up along orthodox lines but living as secular. The video Stop Trying to Be GOD is a kind of a surreal fairytale, serving to illustrate the artist’s relation to Judaism.
